Ibn Al-Am Online

Mohammad Ali Atassi (2011, Syria, 36min)

Ibn Al-Am Online, a follow up to Ali Atassi's 2001 film Ibn Al-Am, resumes the filmmaker's conversation with opposition figure Riad al-Turk at the start of the Syrian Revolution, on March 15, 2011. The octogenarian al-Turk, who spent eighteen years as a political prisoner under Hafez al-Assad—before his son Bashar al-Assad imprisoned him for another two years at the beginning of his reign, reflects on the revolutionary moment irrupting across the country, one that was precipitated by a younger generation in Syria to whom he must hand over the mantle of revolutionary leader.
